Uncle Arthur's® BEDTIME STORIES
Hardcover Stanborough Press 5 vol. set from the 1950s Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories by Arthur Stanley Maxwell were first published in Great Britain in the 1920s by Stanborough Press in Watford, England where the author and his family lived. Arthur S. Maxwell was an assistant editor of the Present Truth magazine and wrote a children's corner for the magazine, which became fodder for the books. Uncle Arthur obtained a contract to produce a volume a year, which he did for 50 years until his death in 1970. Two further volumes were published posthumously. This 5 volume hardcover set published by Stanborough Press is a selection of those stories from the original 50 volumes of stories written for his English audience. It appeared in the 1950s and 1960s. Expect a slight British accent throughout the volumes which gives the set considerable color and the artwork is at times whimsical. |
